Cooper City Civic Group Meeting, Thursday, Jan. 21, 2010

Our  Civic Group Meeting was last evening, Jan. 21, at the Community Center on 90th Avenue.  It was interesting, informative and fun!  Walt Jolliff addressed the Group regarding our Blog, the whys and wherefors of it and, somehow, Walt makes the subject of a Blog interesting and fun!

The Cooper City Civic Group is the first and only Group of its kind in the City and the first to have its own BLOG!  Everyone is very proud of the Firsts which we enjoy!

The Blog  was established by Commissioner John Sims.  We are so grateful to him because we know how busy he is but he found the time to do this for us.  Gladys is especially grateful that Comm. Sims made it  "easy" to operate and Walt Jolliff is a fine tutor in how to operate it.  There is a section for COMMENTS which permits the reader to agree or disagree with the statements on the Blog OR  share additional information regarding any topic on the Blog.  We encourage COMMENTS from the readers.

Sgt. Aimi Alexander, BSO Deputy, attended and gave an explanation of the activity in our District.  We had heard the sirens around 5 PM and she explained that a resident on 90th Terrace came home to find a door open.  Thankfully, no one had entered the house and all was well.  We thank the Deputies for their prompt response.

Sgt. Alexander answered several questions for our folks, as she always does in such a professional manner,  Having a Deputy attend our meetings gives our residents the opportunity to question them regarding situations near  their homes or something which occurs in the City.   This provides information which they would not have if our Deputies did not attend our meetings.  We thank our Cooper City BSO for doing this for us.

We had a further discussion regarding The Police Pension Fund, its costs to us, the taxpayers, the expertise with which it is being overseen by its Pension Board and experience or lack of experience in the Pension Board's running of this  Pension Fund.  When it comes to how our tax dollars  are being spent, the residents are very interested!

We thanked the folks who attended for all the donated non perishable food which will be taken to EASE(Emergency Assistance Service Effort)  954-797-1077, Linda Owen, Director.

The meeting ended with a final cup of coffee and cookies and three prizes being awarded to the lucky attendees

Our next meeting is Thursday, February 18, at 7 PM at the Community Center.  A guest speaker will be announced for that meeting.  Everyone is welcome to attend our meetings.
