Extreme Makeover: Home Edition Nomination Event.
Saturday’s event at the Janis Wahl’s residence, Extreme Makeover Home Edition Nomination was truly an event to be remembered. A lot of neighbors and friends were there to support Janis and her 4 sons. The Wahl’s family has suffered a significant tragedy because of a house fire and a subsequent theft by the contractor of the funds from the insurance company for the restoration of her home.
Thanks to Commissioner John Sims and a videographer friend, David Hack, the attendees and the Wahl family gathered together to speak on tape of their support for the nomination of the Wahl’s home makeover. The tape will be submitted to the production company for the hoped for selection. The tape also included shots of the interior as well as the exterior of the damaged home.
Later, the very same Cooper City Firefighters who had responded on the night of the fire arrived to show their support along with the Cooper City Assistant Chief Richard J. Sievers. (Now that is something to note. Thanks Chief.) Continual taping of the event with supporters and attendees occurred all day, along with some great pictures taken by the people who were there. They grilled hotdogs, hamburgers and consumed iced drinks donated by friends and neighbors.
The weather was perfect and the number of attendees was between 60 -70. All of the local neighbors came out to support the Wahls along with lots of people that were simply there because they had heard of the Wahls situation.
Regrettably none of the local school faculty nor any other city commissioners from Cooper City were present. It seems as though only Commissioner John Sims was concerned enough and found the time to show that he really does care about the residents of Cooper City.
As a person who was there said, “It’s great to see the love, compassion, and friendships, I can't thank you all enough for everything you have done and everything you are doing on behalf of the Wahl family. It is through the support of individuals, local business owners and elected official like Commissioner John Sims who really care, that we are able to continue to strengthen the community and come together to help a neighbor in need.
