May 20 Cooper City Civic Group Meeting

The Cooper City Civic Group met at the Community Center on Thursday, May 20, at 7 PM.

The Meeting was called to order with the recitation of the Pledge and BSO Deputy Mitch Lee was then introduced to discuss the BSO Activity in our area for the previous month.

We had 5 vehicle burglaries in the 87th Av./57 Av. area.  Four on April 4 and the fifth one occurred about the 17th.  Please lock your vehicles and do not leave anything of interest to criminels visible inside the vehicle.

There was a home invasion and the four involved in that  crime were caught.  Also, May 19 the Regions Bank had an attempted robbery.  When the cashier screamed, he ran but he was later caught.

Times get tougher and folks are becoming more desperate and bolder in their attempts to obtain money.  Be Aware and Alert when you are out.

Our thanks to Deputy Lee for his informative visit with us.

Candidate for City Commission, District 2, David Nall, attended  and was asked many pertinent questions by the attendees regarding his vision for  Cooper  City, his concerns about the growing Elderly Population, the aging infrastructure in East Cooper City, BSO and traffic concerns,  how he felt about the City's financial situation and the 2010/2011 Budget increase, our millage rate increase, plus the 3% increase from the Property Appraiser's office, the fire assessment/tax being unfairly increased and the construction of a new City Hall when we are not in need of more space nor is our present City Hall falling down around us.   Plus much more!

He is very knowledgeable in the field of economics, the financial field, and feels the City should be operated like a Business!  This has been Commissioner John Sims point since he took office.

He also believes the residents should have more than the 3 minutes to discuss their concerns since we are their "bosses" and "pay the bills through our tax dollars".  He will be very fiscally conservative with our money!!  Not secretive as the present administration is about the approximately $22,000,000 which they will not admit to having stashed.  Comm. Sims is with him on those points as well.

We want to thank  David Nall for attending and sharing his vision for Cooper City with us.  He was very gracious and answered each question thoroughly.

Everyone enjoyed the coffee and cookies  while taking part in our discussion with Mr. Nall.  A very relaxed but informative meeting!
