Cooper City Crime Prevention Vacation Tips

Cooper City Commissioner John Sims is passing these very important tips via email so we thought we would pass them along by way of our Blog so you can protect your property while on vacation. We extend our thanks to Comm. John Sims for thinking of us, the residents!

The below was sent by the BSO Cyber Visor system, and with the latest home invasions and burglaries in our area, I feel it is necessary to pass this along.

If you are traveling out of town, make sure your residence looks lived in. Use timers for lights to turn on and off at the appropriate times. Arrange for a neighbor to pick up mail, newspapers and any other packages. Test your burglar and smoke alarms to ensure they are working properly. Do not announce your absence on the answering machine (Note: or on FaceBook, MySpace or Twitter!). Tell a trusted neighbor your itinerary and your emergency contact number. Stop by the Cooper City BSO District Office to complete a house check form and a deputy, CSA or COP will check on your residence in your absence.
