Tonight's City Commission Meeting was a horrid disaster. So, what else is new, you ask?
This disaster was caused by Mayor Eisinger, Commissioners Jamie Curran and Lisa Mallozzi AND could possibly cost the City millions of dollars. This affects every resident's already nearly empty pocketbook!
On the Agenda for tonight's meeting was The Franklin Charter School which will be located on Palm Avenue almost at Sheridan, but behind the new shopping center along Sheridan.
This was made into a BIG DEAL by Mayor Eisinger who opposes anything that would ruin the favor she seeks from the Broward School Board.
She held a Town Hall Meeting last Tuesday evening at City Hall so the residents could learn the "facts" and have a chance to express their feelings. I did not attend so I leave the rest of the story and move on to tonight's Commission Meeting.
Everything was going just swell until we came to The Franklin Charter School Agenda Item.
The School's two very fine lawyers whom this Blogger has known for years were present, the traffic engineer, the architect,
The Court Stenographer, as well as their other staff members.
They were prepared to deliver the finest they had...and they did!
This topic began about 8 PM so I left about 8:45 because I could see this was going to go on and on. It did until 10:15 PM! I watched it on TV.
Several residents got up and spoke against the School. Their arguments were emotional and not valid in my estimation.
Mr. Ed Wooley spoke very elegantly and with positive purpose in favor of the School. He is a dynamite speaker!
Now, I am not going to go into all the blathering which went on from the Mayor and Commissioners. EXCEPT Commissioners John Sims and Neal de Jesus spoke intelligently and, again, with positive purpose. Just remember, this went on for over two hours! Mayor Eisinger, Comm. Curran and Mallozzi voted "NO"
The following is the e mail which I sent to the Mayor and Commissioners following the end of the Meeting:
How in the world did you three persons ignore the facts, ignore the threat of a lawsuit, ignore the experts for the school, ignore the P & Z Report, the DRC Report, the Stenographer's presence, my gosh, what does it take to convince you that those folks crossed every T and dotted every i for tonight's meeting? That they meant business!
You three fat toads sat up there and gave your personal opinion rather than being objective and professional to make your decision. You failed to live by the oath which you took as a Commissioner and Mayor to protect our welfare because you deliberately set the City up for a lawsuit.
Now you have put this City in the position to be sued by the School. You have put the City's residents in the position to have to spend millions of dollars to defend ourselves and we will lose this lawsuit just like the Chabad lawsuit.
I hope the School sues all three of you personally, Eisinger, Curran and Mallozzi. You deserve it. Or, maybe, some of us residents ought to sue you personally for what you are doing to our empty pocketbooks!
You thoughtlessly believed you were smarter than the experts(nothing new) and look what you have done to this City and its residents one more time?
Indeed, Commissioners Sims and de Jesus had intelligent remarks to make after the vote. They could look the audience in the eye. They used their brains. You three, Eisinger, Curran and Mallozzi, sat up there hunkered in the corner of your chairs like three fat toads with nothing more to say. You had already done all the damage you could possibly do to us and those chairs could not hide you from the real life facts of the nasty position you put this City in with your "NO" vote.
You three should be ashamed of yourselves for making such a costly mistake against this City and its residents.
In fact, maybe a re-call is in order.
Gladys Wilson
