Cooper City Civic Group Meeting, Sept. 16, 2010

The Cooper City Civic Group had a welcoming crowd for our first meeting of the season. The attendees listened intently to our speakers who were:

Commissioner John Sims Mr. Ed Wooley
Candidates: David A. Nall Mr. Walter Jolliff
Dan W. Barrett BSO Comm. Marvin Stoner

The Candidates introduced themselves and gave a synopsis of their plans for the future as City Commissioners. They were very positive and full of hope for our City to return to the Someplace Special category! No more fighting among the folks on the dais.

None of the speakers had anything negative to say about anyone or any group in Cooper City. Each agreed that The Optimists are important to our City's children and each agreed to pay particular attention to the Elders, their programs and activities.

Mr. Jolliff and Mr. Wooley spoke on the issue of the proposed PropertyTax and Fire Assessment/tax increase. The folks knew what the men were saying and were in agreement: We do NOT need increases!!!

Commander Marvin Stoner gave a short lecture on how to protect ourselves while in our homes: do NOT open the door to strangers!!! No matter who they say they are!!! Call BSO, 954-435-2000, or 911, regarding anything suspicious in your neighborhood.

Our attendees' ages ranged from about 18 to 85. A great mix of ages interested in the November 2 City Election and the candidates.

Although we invited the above named candidates as well as Abraham Rashid, District 3(had another meeting), the Civic Group Meeting was open to all the City's residents to attend.

I, as the Moderator, was disappointed to see two men attend who are very close to Comm. Lisa Mallozzi. I knew them. They entered with notebooks in hand! The one man took out a small tape recorder and kept it out of my vision until John Sims proceeded to speak. I asked if he were recording the meeting, he replied, "yes".

Comm. Sims said it was okay for him to do so however, several residents who attended were not happy aabout the taping and let me know about it after the meeting was over. Why didn't Comm. Mallozzi attend the meeting instead of sending spies?

Frankly, I did not approve of the taping because we all know how tapes can be spliced and cut in order to change the entire meaning of a person's words. And, guess what? "They" are spewing lies this morning about something which Candidate David Nall was supposed to have said. HE DID NOT SAY WHAT THEY ARE ACCUSING HIM OF SAYING!!! HE SAID NOTHING NEGATIVE ABOUT ANYONE OR ANY GROUP! Lisa should have attended the Meeting to hear the truth of what was said or not said. Her spies are not telling the truth and by association, neither is she!

The Cooper City Civic Group held a fine meeting last evening. We will not permit what is being said today by Lisa's spies to marr The Group or the Candidates who attended. Absolutely nothing negative was said by any speaker attending!!!

Our Candidates Night will be Thursday, October 21 at 7 PM at the Community Center. All candidates are invited to attend and so are the residents. This meeting will be about the Candidates and what they have to say in response to questions from the audience.

Everyone is welcome to attend.
