Colonel Harlan Sanders, Kentucky Colonel

You all have heard of Kentucky Fried Chicken, dipped in a mixture of eleven herbs and spices to give the chicken that wonderful Kentucky Fried Chicken flavor!

Well, this is a Did You Know question:  Gladys Wilson personally knew Colonel Harlan Sanders?  She was Director of Purchasing at Union College in Barbourville, Kentucky and he visited the College many, many times during her time there.

He wore the white suit, white shirt and dark string tie and also wore plain white lace-type "gym" shoes,  not the proper black shoes in which they depict him today.  Gladys never saw him in a pair of proper black shoes!  Those "gym" shoes must have cost about $3 to $4.00 at that time--very early '70's!

And, let's not forget the white hat!  He had snowy white hair.

He was quite elderly during the time Gladys saw him but he still got around well.  He had to climb the stairs to the second floor of the Administration Building because there was no elevator!  Didn't seem to bother him at all.

Anyone have a story about someone of interest  you have known or met over the years?  We would love to hear it.  Send to: rwilsonatcc@cs.com
